Shops

Normally most stores will be open from 09.00 till 18.00 from Tuesday till Friday. On Saturday the stores are open from 09.00 – 17.00. On Mondays most stores open up around 13.00 till 18.00. Also most of the stores have a special sales night, which is normally on Thursday and Friday from regular opening time till 20.00 or 21.00. In Rotterdam the stores are open seven days a week. On Sundays the stores are open from 12.00u till 17.00u.

Banks

Normally the banks are open from 09.00u till 16.00u from Tuesday till Friday and on Mondays from 13.00 till 16.00 but this may vary depending on the bank. All banks are closed during weekends.

Going out.

Rotterdam is a big city with nonstop entertainment and activities. You will find Cinema’s, restaurants, cafés, discos and clubs both in the heart of the city and outside of the centre. The late nightlife starts around 22.00u and goes on till around 04.00. You can just keep on going till dawn.

Many countries have their own food habits. In Holland most people eat bread at breakfast. This is between 07.00u and 09.00u. At lunch you see the same food as they eat with breakfast. Lunch is between 12.00u and 13.00u. Dinner is mostly potatoes, meat and vegetables. The average Dutchman eats dinner around 18.00u. Typical Dutch food is boerenkool with sausages, herring, pea soup and pancakes.
